Ranger Firearms Academy offers Concealed Handgun License(CHL) classes in addition to CHL renewal classes. The initial concealed handgun class is tailored to meet the requirements of all levels of ability, whether you are a complete novice or an expert with handguns. Our classes are informative, educational and above all will help prepare you for the responsibility of carrying a concealed handgun. The topics that we cover include: gun and range safety, gun selection, conceal carry techniques, gun handling, marksmanship, safe storage of firearms, legal issues, non-violent dispute resolution and many others. If you don't pass you don't pay.*All of our instructors have extensive backgrounds in military and/or law enforcement. All CHL iinstructors are State of Texas DPS certified and in addition they also possess NRA instructor certification in multiple disciplines including pistol, rifle, shotgun and precision rifle. The process to obtain your Concealed Handgun License (CHL) is actually quite simple and requires a few easy steps.
(Step 1) ELIGIBILITY

This link will take you to the Texas Department of Public Safety web site. Click on CONTINUE and the then click on APPLY FOR A LICENSE. There is no need to fill in this form or apply online. If you apply online it will take one month or more to receive your application package.The application packet will be provided by Ranger Firearms Academy during your concealed handgun license class. If you have already received the application package then please bring it to the class with you.
(STEP 2) ENROLLMENT IN CONCEALED HANDGUN LICENSE (CHL) CLASS
Click on the CHL CLASS SCHEDULE button at the top of this page to check on class dates and book your slot. The State of Texas requires you to take a 10 hour class (4 hour for renewals) This 10 hours includes the shooting proficiency test and written exam. We feel so confident that you will pass the written exam that we will offer you a full refund of your class tuition if you fail this portion of the exam.
(STEP 3) PASS THE SHOOTING PROFICIENCY AND WRITTEN EXAM
We feel so confident that you will pass the written exam that we will refund the cost of the class in the unlikely event that you should fail this portion of the test. If you feel unsure of your safe gun handling skills, shooting technique, range safety and marksmanship then consider taking the PRE-CHL class. THIS CLASS INCLUDES TWO HOURS OF INSTRUCTION IN BASIC FIREARMS SAFETY, RANGE SAFETY, GRIP, STANCE, TRIGGER CONTROL, MARKMANSHIP, CLEARING MALFUNCTIONS, AND FINALLY A MOCK RUN THROUGH OF THE CHL PROFICIENCY TEST. Remember that the CHL shooting proficiency test is just that. A test. You will be expected to know how to operate your weapon safely and follow range safety rules. Should you demonstrate unsafe gun handling techniques and/or violate range safety rules, then you will be removed from the class. The in this situation the cost of tuition will not be refunded. |

(STEP 4) COMPLETE PAPERWORK
Upon successful completion of the shooting proficiency and written exam, you will be awarded a certificate of proficiency by the class instructor. We will then notarize your documents and assist you with your application paperwork. You will be required to have two passport photos and schedule and appointment with FAST for fingerprinting.
(STEP 5) WAIT
Yes. Wait. Texas DPS may take as long as six months to process your application and issue you a concealed handgun license.
The cost of the class does not include licensing/application fees paid directly to the State of Texas. Ranger Firearms Academy reserves the right to refuse admission to any class.
